About the event
Registration for the 27th Newport Paper and Book Arts Festival (NPBAF), presented by Oregon Coast Council for the Arts and the Newport Visual Arts Center, opens at 9:00am on Saturday, January 27th, online, at www.coastarts.org/npbaf.
One of the largest festivals of its kind on the west coast – now in its 27th year – NPBAF celebrates papermaking and manipulation, surface design, book arts, collage, and mixed media. The 2024 festival will take place April 11-13, in Newport and the surrounding communities, and feature twelve unique 1- and 2-day workshops led by ten talented instructors from throughout the Pacific Northwest, and beyond.
Workshop instructors for the 2024 festival include: Botanical Print and Natural Dye Artist Casey Newman, of Gresham; Eco Print and Natural Dye Artist Chris Bentley, of Corvallis; Mixed Media Artist Glenda Goodrich ("GG") of Salem; Fiber Artist and Natural Colorist Iris Sullivan Daire, of Astoria; Book Artist Rose James, of Seal Rock; Collage and Mixed Media Artist Sandi Reinke, of Salem; Book and Paper Artist Connie Stricks, of Fairbanks, Alaska; Book, Box, and Mixed Media Artist Margo Klass, also of Fairbanks; Book and Marbling Artist Pietro Accardi, of Gardnerville, Nevada; and Book, Box, and Mixed Media Arist Randi Parkhurst, of Olympia, Washington.
In addition to the learning opportunities the festival provides, participants also look forward to camaraderie and fellowship. In fact, many have now been attending for 20 years or more. Festival coordinator Sara Siggelkow is hoping to expand attendance in 2024. “We are very fortunate to have a group of committed participants and instructors,” said Siggelkow, “however, this year we have worked hard to find workshops that will appeal to a wider swath, including those who may not have participated in a paper and book arts festival previously.”
To view full workshop information and schedule, visit www.coastarts.org/npbaf and download the 2024 festival brochure. Those interested in attending are encouraged to bookmark the link visit immediately when registrations open, on January 27th at 9:00am, as, historically, most registrations happen within the first few hours, and popular workshops fill up quickly.
“The Newport Paper and Book Arts Festival is for everyone,” said Siggelkow. “Even if you don’t consider yourself a paper or book artist – even if you’ve never taken an art class before – you’re welcome at the festival. We’re going to have a wonderful weekend!”
