THE SCIENTIST

Recommended for current and future scientists.

Newport is a fantastic place to indulge your inner scientist. For the ultimate interactive learning experience, check out the Hatfield Marine Science Center. Here you can study marine life and the coastal environment through a variety of exhibits and displays, many of which encourage hands-on learning like the Erosion Tank or the Tsunami Wave Tank. If you’d rather hypothesize in the great outdoors, book a Marine Discovery Tour. During these two-hour cruises, naturalist guides help passengers discover and learn about local marine life like plankton, sea lions and gray whales. Another excellent location for scientific investigation is the Interpretive Center on Yaquina Head. Here visitors can research the history of the headland, study seabird and marine life exhibits and get a close-up look at a replica of the lighthouse lantern. No matter what subject you prefer to study, Newport offers countless possibilities for observing, questioning, testing, analyzing and concluding!
