- YAQUINA HEAD OUTSTANDING NATURAL AREA
From exploring tide pools teeming with life to witnessing Oregon's tallest lighthouse, there is something for every visitor at Yaquina Head. Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area extends out from the Oregon coast, one mile into the Pacific Ocean. Standing 93 feet tall at the westernmost point of the basalt headland, the lighthouse has been a bright beacon of the night, guiding ships and their supplies along the west coast since the light was first lit on August 20, 1873. The interpretive center features exhibits on seabirds and marine life as well as human history from the headland. You can see the wheelhouse of an historic ship, check out a recreated rocky island and its inhabitants, and witness a full scale replica of the lighthouse lantern. Our guided kayak tours offer an incredible opportunity to get up close and personal with the wildlife, fishing community, and landmarks of Yaquina Bay and the Newport Bayfront. Our tours run from the end of June through Labor Day. $50 per person. No experience necessary. No special gear required (We provide life jackets, pants, and jackets). Ages 6 and up (Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult). Our 2-hour tours run Tuesday through Sunday starting at 9 AM, 12 PM, 3 PM, and 6 PM. Whether you want to go for a quiet morning paddle or watch the sun set behind the historic Yaquina Bay bridge, we'll help you craft an unforgettable trip. What To Bring How To Find Us Cancellation Policy Common Questions What To Bring Our guided kayak tours run “rain or shine”, so you'll want to be prepared for the conditions on the day of your tour. Your feet will definitely get a little wet. Paddle jackets and pants are provided (in limited sizes) . We recommend the following items: Sunscreen. Footwear that can get wet. Quick dry clothing (cotton is not recommended) . Extra layers (a windbreaker or rain jacket/pants) . Waterproof case for your smartphone and/or camera. Gratuity for your guide (optional, but appreciated) . How To Find Us Our tours launch from our boathouse located at Port Dock 7 in Newport, Oregon. Parking is available at the Port of Newport, with additional on-street parking on SE Bay Blvd. Please remember that Newport is a working port, so we ask that you be respectful and park closest to the street so that fishermen have priority access. Once you have arrived, simply go down the access ramp to the docks, and take an immediate left at the bottom of the ramp (at the seafood barge) . Walk past the sailboats and we're the first boathouse that you come upon. Driving Directions Parking Map Cancellation Policy We require at least 24 hours cancellation notice prior to your scheduled tour, or we cannot provide a refund. All of our tours are weather dependent and may be cancelled due to inclement weather or other unsafe conditions.
