On the Oregon Coast, fishermen, farmers, chefs, scientists, and local leaders are all connected by the same goal: keeping food local and strengthening our community. The Central Coast Food Web is helping make that happen by supporting small producers, building innovative facilities, and finding new ways to keep Oregon seafood on Oregon plates. What may surprise you is that much of the seafood served in our state doesn’t actually come from local waters. The Central Coast Food Web is working to change that, creating space for businesses to grow and making sure the coast’s harvest supports both the environment and the people who call this place home. Read the Full Story on the Oregon Coast Food Web Tidepooling with Care WATCH YOUR STEP Walk slowly and carefully to avoid slipping on wet rocks or stepping on fragile creatures. Always place your feet on bare rock instead of seaweed or pools. GENTLE TOUCH You can touch tidepool animals, but only with two wet fingers. This keeps them safe and helps protect their sensitive skin and shells. LEAVE NO TRACE Leave rocks, shells, and animals where you found them. It’s a way to care for one another, to celebrate the Pacific Ocean that sustains this Oregon coastal town, and to share stories passed down with every catch. This spirit goes back generations. When Jack Joyce co-founded Rogue Ales here in 1988, it wasn’t just about brewing bold coastal beer. It was about building community, one pint at a time. Long before that, Mohava Niemi — known locally as “Mo” — opened the original Mo’s Restaurant on Newport’s historic bayfront with a simple mission: make sure every fisherman was fed. Her legendary clam chowder put Newport on the culinary map, but it was her warmth and open-door hospitality that shaped the town’s food culture. She fed people like family, and her spirit still lingers in the food scene. That same love of ocean, people, and place lives on in beloved spots like Local Ocean Seafoods, where today’s catch goes from dock to table in hours. It’s a fresh take on Mo’s promise. Honest. Local. Unforgettable. From waterfront crab shacks to cozy cafés, craft breweries to chef-driven kitchens, Newport, Oregon restaurants offer more than just incredible seafood.
